HIGH PREVELANCE OF ASTHMA IN KENYA

 Have you ever seen someone getting an Asthma Attack and you felt you could lose them in some minutes? Well indeed It is a very Scary experience as it could be a matter of life and Death.

 Asthma  is a condition in which a person's windpipe becomes  swollen, produce extra mucus and narrows as a result makes  breathing difficult. 

It also triggers coughing, a whistling sound when you breathe out and shortness of breath.

According  to the Kenya Health Demographic Survey , 10% of the  Kenyan population or  4 million people, have Asthma and the cases are still rising spontaneously.  

Asthma Occurs effects one differently, some may experience Mild symptoms and other severe symptoms that could lead to Death. 
Here are some of the Asmtha attack levels 

1)Mild intermittent  Mild symptoms up to two days a week and up to two nights a month

2)Mild persistent
Symptoms occur  more than twice a week, but no more than once in a single day

3) Moderate persistent
Symptoms occur  once a day and more than one night a week

4) Severe persistent
Symptoms throughout the day on most days and frequently at 
ASTHMA SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS 

• Shortness of breath

• Chest tightness or pain

• Wheezing when exhaling, which is a common sign of asthma in children

• Trouble sleeping caused by shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing

• Coughing or wheezing attacks that are worsened by a respiratory virus, such as a cold or the flu

CAUSES OF ASTHMA

Genetics, pollution and modern hygiene standards have been suggested as causes, but there's not currently enough evidence to know if any of these do cause asthma.

Who can Get Asthma or Possibility Of getting Asthma
• having had bronchiolitis – a common childhood lung infection

• exposure to tobacco smoke as a child

• your mother smoking during pregnancy

• being born prematurely (before 37 weeks) or with a low birth weight

It also goes with the type of work you do (Profession)

Examples of people who may have a higher risk of being exposed to these substances.
Paint sprayers, bakers, pastry makers, nurses, chemical workers, animal handlers, timber workers, welders and food processing workers , cement manufacturing company workers


INHALER TO  MANAGE ASTHMA ATTACK

ASTHMA TRIGGER
The unpredictable disease can be trigger by many factors, here are the most common triggers. 
1. infections like colds and flu

2. allergies – such as to pollen, dust mites, animal fur or feathers

3. smoke, fumes and pollution

4. medicines – particularly anti-inflammatory painkillers like ibuprofen and aspirin

5. emotions, including stress, or laughter

6.weather – such as sudden changes in temperature, cold air, wind, thunderstorms, heat and humidity

7. mould or damp

MANAGING ASTHMA 
Note : Asthma does not have a cure but its symptoms can be controlled. 

1.Identify and minimize contact with asthma triggers

2. Understand and take medications as prescribed by a Certified Doctor 

3. Monitor asthma to recognize signs when it is getting worse.

4. Know what to do when asthma gets worse.

You should Visit the Doctor for regular check ups to have Asmtha Diagnosis  and also get prescribed Medication that would be helpful to ease the Asmtha Attacks.
