THE EARTH IS DRYING
The Earth is at high risk to drying up due to global warming. This situation did not just emerge rather it is a disastrous process. Global warming refers to the long term warming effect of the earth climate that has continously been observed since the pre industrial period.
It occurs when carbon dioxide and other air pollutants collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiations that have bounced off the earth surface. The pollutants last for years to centuries in the atmosphere ,trap the heat causing the planet to get hotter.
GREENHOUSE EFFECT
Greenhouse effect is a good thing since it warms up the planet to favourable degrees for human beings and animals to inhabit. However the burning of fossil fuels by human beings since the pre-industrial period has amplied the greenhouse effect causing the temperatures in the planet to rise up. This results to global warming .
CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING.
1. Industrial activity
Burning of fossil fuels release carbon dioxide and other gases into the atmosphere.
2. Agricultural activity.
Increase in number of human beings has led to demand for more food. In return commercial agricultural activities use commercial and organic fertilizers in order to maximise output. They release nitrous oxide and methane, greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
3. Deforestation.
Cutting down of trees has led to increase to of carbon dioxide. This is because trees absorb carbon dioxide sustaining the gases . Estimating that 3.5 to 7 billion trees are cut every year ,increase in carbon dioxide is invietable.
4. Factories and Industries
Modern manufacturing industries produce emissions, mostly by burning fossil fuels to produce energy for producing their products.
5. Transportation
Vehicles, ships, planes run every day all over the world. They use fossil fuel to run and operational which they emit into the atmosphere.
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING
1. Hotter temperatures
Increase in temperatures has been on the rise over the last decade. Heat waves are being recorded which causes heat related illnesses and also cause wildfires which destroy indigenous plants and species.
2. Severe storms
Change in temperature causes a change in rainfall which causes severe and frequent storms. This in return causes flooding in low lying lands and landslides.
3.Increased Rate Of Drought
Hotter temperatures causes scarcity in water causing drought. Drought causes shortage in food and water thus causing famine for both people and animals.
3.Rise in ocean levels.
Hotter temperatures melts the ice sheets in south and north poles. This in return raises sea levels. This can led to submerging of islands and flooding in coastal areas.
4. Health risks
Changing weather patterns and extreme weather increases disease and death. They diseases include heat related illnesses and malaria.
Saving our earth and its environment becomes highly important as it provide us food and water to sustain life. Our well-being solely depends on this planet as it gives food and water to all living things to.
It is our responsibility to take care of it. The following briefly explains how we can prevent further damage to Planet Earth.
Solutions of global warming
1 Planting more trees
2. Divert from using coal and encourage the community as well .
3. Choose leaders who supports efforts to stop global warming
4. Create more sustainable transportation habits .
